Permission to post from a Mom of premie twins complaining of nipples turning purple with pumping. I observed a pumping. She is using medela classic in the hospital and lactina at home. The pumping I observed she was using the regular sized flanges which she prefers. They seemed to be an appropriate size. She also has the larger size. She uses normal suction settings.
Nipples did turn purple during the pumping. Mom states she only has pain when she pumps twice in a row. After nursing she describes nipples as being pale pink. No discomfort when nursing.
My first thought was Raynaud's, but could that be possible without the blanching?
Anyone with any ideas?
TIA,
