Yes, a hospital must refuse ALL formula donations to receive the Baby
Friendly designation. Moreover, all pt education literature must be in
compliance with the 10 Steps, so you cannot use formula company handouts, or
notepads, or pens, or growth charts.  If you want all the inside details of
Baby Friendly, contact BFUSA and ask for a copy of the Guidelines and
Evaluation Criteria.  Everything is spelled out in this document.  Their
email address is <www.aboutus.com/a100/bfusa>.  In one recent article from
Canada on Baby Friendly, the author recommends inplementing Step 6 (no free
formula) last out of the Ten, because by the time you implement all the
other Steps, your bfdg initiation rates will be up so high that your need
for purchased formula will be next to nil.
