One mother told me that she said that she was "going to wean" because she
didn't know any other way to convey how bad it was.  I have, since, asked
other mothers about those words, after problems resolved, they said that
that was their feelings too.

Of course, some are, in fact wanting to wean; but I assume that if a mother
calls me, she wants to breastfeed her baby.

In this second case, I would pursue yeast treatment.
