Debbie,
    From Tom Hale's "Medications and Mother's Milk - 2002" :
"Pantoprazole (Protonix) is a proton-pump inhibitor similar to
omeprazole (Prilosec). It is used primarily to suppress acid production in
the stomach for treatment of gastroesophageal reflux or peptic ulcer
disease. The pharmaceutical manufacturer reports 0.02% of an administsered
dose is excreted into milk. As with all the proton-pump inhibitors,
pantoprazole is virtually unstable in an acid mileu and when presented in
milk, it would be highly unstable in the infant's stomach. If any were
present in milk, it would be largely degraded prior to absorption. See
omeprazole for an alternative." He also lists the half-life as being 1
hour, so if a drug is virtually gone in 5 half-lives, that would mean that
timing the dose for example after the baby's bedtime if possible, and the 7
month old sleeps at least 5 hours before the next feeding, it would
virtually eliminate even that small exposure.
