All our mums room-in and can nap with their babies during the day/night. I
went up to work in the postnatal ward the other night and found babies
either in their cots by mum's bed or in bed with mum sleeping or feeding.
Only very unsettled babies or formula fed babies went into the nursery but
these babies are taken out to mothers for feeds
No supplying etc is allowed without mother's permission, this has to be
charted on the clinical pathway and signed by the mum.

we are going for BFHI and are trying very hard to met their criteria.

We suggest to mums that they minimise their visitors and have a period
during the day when there is no visiting allowed except for the mum's
significant other ([partner).Even the neonatal nursery is now closed to
visitors along with parents from 1.30 -3pm to allow the babies a rest and
recovery period and staff to catch up,settle babes and do the appropriate
documentation before handing over to the next shift.

babies of mums who have surgery/caesareans or difficult deliveries may go to
the nursery overnight but do go out to the mums for feeds where they are
helped onto the breast.I can still remember putting babies to dozing mums
and switching breasts as necessary.
