I have not read the Salon article, I didn't want to read it and then become
even more frustrated. But thank you to those that have summarized it.

Pam you bring up great points, that our country needs to go one step further
in supporting mothers that breastfeed. We are slowly getting there with
laws that protect breastfeeding in the workplace.

In our area of Iowa we have a Bosnian population. Some of these mothers
have chosen not to breastfeed or to combine breast and bottle, even though
as I understand it breastfeeding is the majority in their home country. A
few of the reasons I've heard from these Bosnian moms; "in this country you
have to back to work", "in this country moms and babies are seperated, its
not good". I am not to judge their financial situation, here they see that
to become "prosperous" a family does have a double income. Also many of
these moms work in local factories. Factories are one of the most difficult
places to pump in. It saddens me to learn that some of these moms have
chosen not to breastfeed at all because they know they have to wean at
around 6 weeks to go back to work. And these are mothers that have
breastfed successfully in the past. And yes its all about the bottom
dollar, get those moms back working to make the product, then they need to
give more formula, on and on. Corporations win, babies and families lose.
