Many (many) years ago, my LLLC co-Leader nursed her first baby on one side
only, for 3-4 years.  She was never entirely sure why one breast didn't
work, as she was able to breastfeed on both sides with her second.

Once the cause of the pain is found/fixed, 'your' mom could relactate the
other breast, as it is working fine (other than whatever is causing the
pain).
