Dear Pat Gima and everybody:
I don't dilute the gentian violet the mother buys from the pharmacy. I
suggest she put one drop on a q-tip or swab, and paint her nipples, areolas,
and the baby's mouth. She may need several drops for this. Then, don't treat
for two days. (As long as the dye is there, it is working). On the third day,
treat again. Skip two more days.
And continue like this until the two week mark is reached.
I am not concerned about it being an alcohol solution because she is only
using a few drops, so very little will be ingested by the baby and the alcohol
from the gentian violet on her nipple and areolar skin will evaporate. And I
am not worried about ulceration in the baby's mouth because she is treating
so sparingly. No reported difficulties yet with this method. Moms sometimes
don't like the intense purple mouth. But there's never been yet a problem with
any mucous membrane damage.
This is my favorite yeast remedy because it treats a variety of strains,
and penetrates skin layers, is cheap, and the mother is in control. Warmly,
Nikki
