Dear Mary,
I was at a conf a couple years ago where the topic was moist wound healing.
Marsha Stewart was the speaker. She reviewed several brands of hydrogel
dressings and gave us a case study of an I&D of an abscess where they used a
hydrogel dressing to pack the wound. (This was a kling type dressing not a
Band-Aid type.) The wound healed much quicker than with the traditional
packing and the mother did not experience discomfort with the packing,
especially the removal.

There is NO reason to pump and dump this side. There is so much literature
to support the continuation of breastfeeding with an abscess. Please
encourage this mom to continue.
Hope this helps.
