Our hospital, which you might remember is a level three hospital, does admit moms and babies if mom needs readmit for problems. Mom is admitted by her doc, for her diagnosis. Baby is admitted by the ped in NICU, to normal newborn care,rooming-in, and is looked after by mom's care-givers -- which basically means an assessment including v.s. q shift, and counting pees and poops. This is where our CNAs, CPs or whatever you call them come in extremely handy, as they do most of the mom/infant assistance at this stage.

What I do not know is what we would do if mom is hospitalized for something other than post-partum complications, such as needing a kidney transplant when her baby is 3 mos. of age.
