I had a client several years ago who had an abcess which was aspirated by
needle by an OB. The mother did not want to take abx for a variety of
reasons. She used potato poultices recommended by a naturopath, and with the
knowledge of the OB. A week later she returned to the OB as she had agreed to
take abx if the poultices didn't work. The Ob was surprised to see that the
abcess had completely resolved. It never returned. Your case sounds more
severe, but since the mother is inclined to wait it out anyway, maybe she
could try this. She would use fresh grated raw potato in cheesecloth and a
hot pack over it.
