Elisheva - correct!

There is no need to state this perfectly reasonable complaint in
anything longer than a paragraph or two. 200 words would do
it...tops.

In order to get unreasonable folks to become reasonable, you have to
be mega-reasonable yourself. Stay civil, cool, and calm, and assume
the best of people (even if, as in this case, the hostile attitudes
go up a couple of levels in the store).

We had a case here in the UK a year or so ago, not at all dissimilar,
with a large supermarket involved. The supermarket staff probably
behaved unreasonably, but the argument about he said/she said
escalated and became so heated, with deluges of emails from all over
the place which I gather became really abusive. The facts disappeared
in the steam coming out of people's eyes and ears!
