I have to admire the work done by so many in trying to create the "perfect" video - and I think they ALL are useful with the right introduction and clarification - and you can even use it to help you communicate empathy and support.

For example, I have been using the very old Righard video (http://www.geddesproduction.com/breast-feeding-delivery-selfattachment.php) during just about every training I give to nurses, doctors, parents, etc.

When I'm speaking to parents - it gives me the opportunity to encourage them to avoid medications and separation

When I'm speaking to physicians - it gives me the opportunity to explain the concerns we have about medications and separating babies from their mothers (but of course I have to clarify the room is WARM so the babies can be safely uncovered)

When I'm speaking to nurses - I voice sympathy about how much harder their job is when they get that "second baby" - rather than blaming them, which would only make them even less likely to listen to anything else I have to say.

When I'm speaking to people who see moms after discharge, it helps to explain to them their importance in getting to the mom who has been unable to latch her baby on in the hospital, rather than blaming "those terrible hospital nurses"...

Yes, we would all like to have the ideal baby and mother video - but almost every video can be an opportunity for education if you provide the right introduction and clarification!
