Please stop sending stuff - even breastmilk - to emergencies. UNICEF is the
Nutrition Cluster Lead in Haiti. They said, we don't need it here. Why?
There is no shortage of breastmilk in Haiti. Mothers whose babies are in
NICU need support to breastfeed their own babies. - and before anyone tells
me that mothers of premmies can't produce sufficient milk for their babies
... bollocks ... if they are taught to express and express often ... if they
are encourage to kangaroo their babies the milk will come. On the off
chance that L2 is delayed in one mother, there will others who are
overproducing. The costs of transport, storage and processing is money that
is diverted from the provision of clean water and appropriate complementary
foods for older infants and young children.
If you want to help send money to Save the Children, UNICEF, Concern, Action
Against Hunger (Action contre le faime) or Care and tell them you want it
directed towards their Infant and Young Child Feeding programme ...
specifically breastfeed education and support.
Getting more and more frustrated
