If you need numbers, I once read that car seats have reduced brain 
injuries by 90% and deaths by 75% (though as always, the info stuck but 
the reference did not!).  I used to work as an EMT during college 
(before car seats), I have seen infants with skull fractures, and never 
want to see one again.
