We give all of our mothers the same pumping instructions. They are given
one double set up when their baby is admitted to the NICU not matter
gestational age. The mother is instructed to wash all of the parts that
touch the milk (not the tubing) with hot soapy water and rinse. They
dry the pump parts on clean paper towels. They are also given a basin if
they are pumping at the hospital. NICU moms wash, dry and store the pump
parts in the basin given to them. We have not had any increase in
infection rate and we have been doing this for 4 years.
I hope this is helpful to you.
