Dear colleagues,
I've got a puzzling case lately and wonder if any of you would like to help
me figure this out. The mother had seen me previously for mastitis. That
was a few months of ago, and it was resolved. This time, she came and
presented with a right breast that is painful to the touch. There were no
apparent white spots, but on touching the lower quadrant of her right
breast, there were some lumps. She described her pain as warm, hot, heavy
and painful. It seemed like her breast duct systems were swollen and
uncomfortable. She was on a course of antibiotics for suspected mastitis,
but she felt that after a few days, the situation did not seem to improve.
So I'm suspecting yeast infection in the duct system- she is trying out the
daktarin course for both herself and her baby first. We are still
wondering that should be the course of action - or should we move on
straight to Diflucan? Any comments?
