Jay,
I fully agree with your statement " I think it would make them (the doctors)
look a lot better, more respectable, and more ethical" if they would admit to
not knowing and be willing to research.  Dr. Smith was someone I dealt with 16
years ago while nursing my second son.  He was 9 months old when I put my back
out.  Dr. Smith prescribed a muscle relaxant, when I asked re: safety with
breastfeeding, his response was "I think it should be safe, but let's look it
up to be sure."  He celebrated his 80th birthday shortly after this, but even
with his MANY years of experience, he was still willing to research info.  He
stands out in my mind as a doctor to be respected and I think of his
willingness to look something up each time a client asks me a question I am
unsure of.
