I need some help in assisiting my d-i-l and her very allergic breastfed
baby. I don't have a lot of experience in this area. My d-i-l has
psorisis and always had 'sensitive' skin. My son is gluten and soy protein
intolerant ever since a severe intestional upset (viral or food poisoning?)
when he was 21. So they've been careful with their diets all along. Ewan
is five months old, was ttied and I suspected had some reflux connected to
that. TT was released at 3 months (thanks Cathy Genna and Maryanne O'Hara)
along with mom's tt. Symtoms of reflux subsided and all were all doing
great. About four weeks ago the whole family got a gastric 'bug' with
vomiting. Ewan also got it and it lasted about 24 hours longer than the
adults...thank goodness he is breastfed! Within a few days of his recovery
an itchy rash broke out on his scalp---sad to watch such a little guy
scratching his head like that! Mom decided to try going dairy free due to
her own family hx for 2 weeks. The rash/itching decreased but did not
completely resolve. Mom added dairy back in and Ewan immediately reacted
with excema patches on his rib cage and arms. Mom also had stomach
discomfort. So they are back to dairy free living as of ten days ago. She
texted me this morning to report 2 more excema spots have appeared. They
are also very careful with contact w/soaps & detergents. My son is a
full-time grad student and my d-i-l is staying at home so no extra $ for
alternative medicine---and of course, American traditional medicine only
offers treatment for the symtoms. Where can my d-i-l get support and
'good' information on the web. And any ideas from experienced Lactnetters
is welcome! So sad when mom is doing everything 'right' and baby is having
problems anyway.
