We're home now, after a day at Disneyland, a day
swimming and a day at the LA zoo. We're all
exhausted, oddly enough.

I had a few things I want to remember to mention to
you all about the taping. Ursula and Sage had been
told they would be on the show, in the audience and we
showed up with that in mind. After makeup, hair, etc,
we were told that they would be in a "playroom", news
which upset them greatly. I got the producer into my
dressing room to discuss it and she said that had been
changed the day before but she "had written the script
to have them in the show." Now isn't that
interesting? A script! Who would have thought. :-P

Ursula pleaded with Julie, so the girls got to sit on
my lap during segment 7, the wrap up. Benno was only
in the field taped shots.

Clearly the show was scripted so I had a "problem" but
I was able to redirect some of the discussion to
*societal* issues and my beliefs that child led
weaning was desireable. Who knows how that will come
out. The part of the field taping when I talked about
teaching Ursula to nurse again, by opening her mouth
wide and using her tongue was shown- that will be good
to dissuage all those who think breastfeeding is like
sucking a straw. I can't remember if they used any
footage of Benno nursing- oh, I think they had some of
us out on our hammock. Throughout, Benno was accepted
as a normal age to be nursing.

Thank the Goddess that "Dr. Phil" introduced himself
to me as "Phil McGraw"- and we had time to chat during
breaks. He appears to be very nice and took time to
chat with all of my children after the taping.

They are interested in a follow-up at some point. I'd
be interested in doing it a year or so from now, after
some further correspondence.

the other issues on the show were potty learning- his
technique which will be on the website and entails
having the "learner" teach a baby doll. He stressed
non-punative teaching in that segment. Another set of
parents were on for "picky eating" and another for a 3
yo who didn't want to go to bed. they were treated as
tantrum issues; I viewed them as the child not getting
what he needed from the parents, but there wasn't
really a q & a session where I could challenge that.
