Deb,

I don't know of any reason that a slow modem and the size of the digest
should cause any problem. I will try to help if I can but it may help to
know more about your setup. It appears that you are using an internet
provider, not AOL or Compuserve. Are you having problems with receiving the
digest or responding to it? When you say "trip", are you saying that you are
getting disconnected from your provider while trying to receive the digest?
Do you get any of it? Is it in a separate file? It must not be happening
every time since you have been receiving the digest and now responded to it.
If the one digest is received, can you go back and retreave the one that was
giving you trouble? If it is possible for you to tell me some information on
the specific digests that kick you off the system, that may help.

Please provide additional information.

You could try and send a command to the listserv to send individual
listings, rather than digests, this would shorten the e-mail. This command
is SET LACTNET NODIgest. I don't think this is you problem, but it is worth
a try. You will ofcourse receive approx. 30 emails a day. I would only use
this as a test. It is not recommended, because it will drastically increase
traffic on the system. If all 1000+ subscribers did this some of you might
get you mail next week. That would be 30,000 emails a day rather than 4000.

On a related subject: Carlos Gonzales, Kathleen Bruce and myself have been
working to resolve the binary file, winmail.bat, problem that Carlos has
been having. I believe we have resolved the problem and will not see the
strange characters at the end of his messages. He might feel like writing
more often. I am not trying point out Carlos specifically, only letting
others know that there might be a solution to their email problem.

Thanks,
Roger Vest, husband of Beth Vest
