F is a good grade in terms of trophic (tissue building) and immunologic
functions, because artificial milks have none of the human specific
components that are active in these areas, and D in terms of nutrition.
Just barely passes. Keeps the baby growing, but does not provide for
proper amino acids for retinal development, bile salt conjugation; not
enough cholesterol to cause lipid metabolism to be set up properly; not
enough of the right kinds of phospholipids and galactose for optimal
brain cell development, etc.
