I was the original poster on the politics on lactnet thread. I think I could
be more specific--politics does indeed have a wide meaning, and it would be
a shame to avoid the whole topic. I was speaking in specific reference to a
post that suggested a particular politician didn't value children because he
vetoed a bill about expanding universal health care. IMO that was pretty
removed from the topics that lactnet covers--someone could easily say
canditate X doesn't value children b/c he wants to increase taxes which will
make it hard for lower income families to afford Mom staying at home with
the kids. When met head on, maybe those would be great topics for LACTNET.
However when mentioned in passing as if all good people agree--well it can
be frustrating.

So to clarify, I am not in favor of limiting discussions. However, I think
we can be so convinced of the close link between our beliefs on
breastfeeding and our political party, that we may forget that others may
believe that the opposite party best supports breastfeeding--and that still
others are in a different country and couldn't care less. I think just being
aware of that will increase the sensitivity.
