It seems to me that putting Crisco on sore nipples is the same as the old advice to put butter on a burn -- instead of letting the wound heal, it traps in the heat, doesn't let it breathe, and the situation gets worse.  Just because Crisco is semi-fluid in texture, does not make this moist wound healing.
