Dear Lactnetters,
This is really a query for Tom Hale, but I want to share it. A
colleague has a pre-natal case with hypertension "through the roof" as
she is off all medication for the duration of the pregnancy. The mother
has to resume medication after the birth, and is to go on Lescol
(Fluvastatin), an inhibitor of cholesterol synthesis in the liver. Tom,
in Medications & Mother's Milk you comment that it "would not be
advisable under any circumstances" (p. 284) and there is no alternative
listed. My colleague had checked your book, and realises that this is
one of the few cases where the mother is going to *have to* use
artificial milks from birth, and will be supporting her in this
situation. We both wondered if there is any update on this, e.g. any new
alternative drug?
I'm currently "NO MAIL", and a personal reply would be appreciated.
   Cheers,
     Virginia

PS The jacarandas are out in bloom all over Brisbane - a lovely sight,
but for students a sign that (November) exams are near.
