I think there are several points missing
1. new US parents haven't had much exposure to baby calming ways
2. Most of us are experienced, with long personal and professional practice
at calming babies (that's why parents want us to go home with them :-)
3. newbies (at anything) want rules. as they gain experience they put their
experience into practice. Rules - this is why Dr Karp's book/DVD is helpful
to newbies. Same reason many are attracted to Ezzo, Spock, Brazelton etc.
(Yes, they are all written by men, because most women are too busy with the
kids to write - those of you who can write - need to!)

This discussion reminds me of throwing the baby out with the bathwater!
Dr Karp has good things to tell parents how to cope, Ezzo does not. Dr Karp
focuses on baby's needs, Ezzo focuses on parent's. Now which do we prefer
that parents listen to?

PS I had my kids many, many years ago, I couldn't stand to hear a baby cry.
Instinctively I responded to the cries, even tho everyone told me I was
spoiling them. The four yr old was whining and crying one day, his father
told him , look kid you've never cried before, don't start now :-) Pat in
