To Mary Jo and others with related posts,
Today I started a mom pumping whose newborn is probably a trisomy 18.
I was unaware at the time I went into her room that that was the
probable diagnosis. In the past when there have been babies with a very
poor prognosis I have started a mom pumping only if she brought up the
subject. (Many do.) Now, thanks to the stories and opinions from you I
will not wait to be asked.
In fact, when this mom got tearful I still felt comfortable enough to
say she could start pumping whenever she was ready and it was the one
thing she could do. At that point she sort of smiled and said "I was
thinking the same thing." It made me feel even better when I got home
and read your post, Mary Jo. Thank you for sharing your story.
