The reasons you give for preferring to talk to the mother herself are
indeed valid. But the father was looking for information. It would have
been helpful to provide him with information without discussing his wife.
His wife may not have known he was calling . He may have found himself in
the frustrating situation of wanting his wife to take the prozac because
she needed it but still worried about effects he didn't know about on
THEIR child. He might not have wanted her to know he was calling because
he feared his wife would think the call meant he didn't want her to take
the medication.
I think it would have been helpful to say non committally " This is what
my source says about this medication." Let them make their own
interpretations and then explain you could be of much more assistance if
you could talk to the woman herself. He probably hasn't got alot of
resources to find the informatioin he was looking for. You needn't
discusss any particulars just dispense CORRECT information.
Each call is different and most times you really do need the woman
herself and not the husband , mother in law, sister , friend or whatever.
I had three different women call me about helping one other woman. That
woman had alot of people concened about her but I needed to hear from her
for all of the reasons you had mentioned. I think when she did call it
was reluctantly .
