Several years ago U of MI, Ann Arbor used an empty nursery as a "camp out"
room for moms whose babies had to stay. Soft, comfy couches, blankets and
pillows etc. I'm not sure if they still do it but it was a great
idea. Mom had to be discharged, taken to front door, physically leave the
hospital and then come back in - I believe for insurance and liability
issues. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ P.S. Another two empty nurseries were used
for meeting rooms and classroom space. Empty nurseries you say? Babies
all were with moms. Newborn baths done in mom's room with a warmer that
was moved room to room. Bath done when the parents requested it in 1st 24
hours or so! Each room had a pull out bed for dad. Really neat program.
