Regarding the discussion about poor advice regarding temp weaning and
vomiting, I must stress that Jack's comment is 100% correct. Do not stop
bf when baby is vomiting. The "conventional" wisdom to go off all solids
and dairy while vomiting doesn't apply to breastmilk because human
breastmilk is NOT DAIRY and it IS considered a clear fluid. Weaning is
dangerous because babies who are vomiting need the electrolytes and
antibodies contained in the mother's milk--in fact, these become
concentrated during illness. BTW, the statement regarding anesthesia and
clear fluids now includes breast milk as a clear fluid only to be obstained
from for 3 hours prior to surgery.
