I seem to be seeing so many mothers lately who hadn't planned to
breastfeed but then when their milk comes in and they become engorged
they decide to try. They say either "I heard it hurt but it couldn't
hurt any more than this" or "Well, there was all of this milk there
so I thought I might as well try" or something like that. I wish
there was some way to help them see ahead what they see at this
point. I guess it's the same old story of mothers who never had it
role modeled for them so the reality of breastfeeding has never been
there for them until they actually HAVE breasts that are full of milk
and then there is a little "aha!" that goes off somewhere in them and
they realize what all of the words never helped them know. Any
thoughts on how to approach women prenatally to help them start
before this happens and the baby has already been on the bottle for
several days?
