Hey Fellow Lactnetters,

I am openly admitting I have to vent, but, I would also like any experiential
input anybody has.

We had a mom come to 4 LLL meetings and then fail to bf. It was a situation
of getting lots of help, but, she didn't practice what they preached. Didn't
nurse baby in the hospital because they told her babies are often sleepy and
she'll catch on "later." But, she didn't and mom maybe tried her nursing
once a day at best while waiting out the 6 or so weeks it can take for
some babies to catch on (saw an LC every week). So, okay, she really doesn't
want to nurse and now she pumps and gives baby that. Baby is 4 mos. now and
getting 7 4-5 oz bottles. I saw her last week and she was forcing a
screaming baby to eat cereal and offering bottle when the baby got too
hysterical. Mom says she eats about 2 tbsp (or more) cereal three times a
day and "doesn't seem satisfied" from just bottles anymore. The baby was
born 5 1/2 lbs. and is still very thin. M.D. is satisfyed with her
development.

Okay, my questions:

Is eating so much cereal at such an early age that typical for bottlefed
babies or is this an emotional thing for mom?
Is so much cereal compromising her nutrition from bm/abm?
Is 7 4-5 oz bottles enough for a baby that age?
(I have encouraged her to always offer bottle first and given her the talk
about nutrients of both)

TIA for the vent and info.
