I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the IBCLC (or
IBCLC-to-be with appropriate supervision) functions as an IBCLC no matter
what the first credential was. My logic stems from the fact that I have no
nursing credential, only a degree in music performance...but I fully expect
to work as an IBCLC in the future when I have sat for and passed the exam
and completed other educational and practical elements of training and
experience. If a hospital or clinic or other practice deems me worthy of
employment as an IBCLC, I'd hope that the IBCLC credential stands alone and
for itself.

Whether the IBCLC duties are within the scope of the LPN seems insignificant
if these IBCLC's-to-be are properly supervised by an IBCLC, and once they
are IBCLC's themselves, it would seem silly for them to be *limited* by the
LPN credential, any more than I expect to be limited by my music degree and
work experience as a professional clarinet player.

I'm interested in how this plays out for your LPNs,
Diana in NY
