I'd like to give an update on this family.

Baby is 10 weeks old now. She is being seen by a wonderful SLP who pushed
for the baby's tongue being clipped asap. The ENT who saw the baby said he
didn't really see the need, but he would defer to the SLP and the baby's
tongue was clipped last week.

Reflux symptoms have largely resolved. Baby is not on any meds anymore.
Mother has been thru a course of Diflucan and Pat Gima's yeast treatment.
Baby was treated as well. The mother states she is fairly sure now that
yeast is not her problem.

She is taking Evening Primrose Oil for the probable nipple vasospasm. The
NP (not the original one) in the OB clinic declined to prescribe Nifedipine.
She is still having pain when nursing. Baby is gaining well and seeming
happy. The SLP gave them tongue exercises to do with the baby and they are
working with her daily to try and improve her suck. The mother understands
that it may take some time to retrain the baby to use her tongue properly
after over 8 weeks of restricted movement.

We have discussed CST and mother is still thinking about that.

So, most of the issues have been resolved, but nipple pain during and
between nursings is still there. Mother is pretty much resigned to the pain
at this point, and states that she's not at the point of "quitting" yet.
I'm hoping that as the baby starts using her tongue properly, the damage
(vasospasm) will eventually resolve? Does anyone have any experience with
how long it may take to see improvement in the baby's suck? I'm hoping to
be able to do another feeding assessment soon and if so I will give another
update.

Thanks again for all the support and encouragement when I first posted about
this case.
