Like Emily, I had decided to finally sit the exam this year, but am
now really reconsidering due to the issues with the scope of practice
etc. As an LLLL I am quite experienced at providing mothers with
*information not advice* in a way that is respectful of other carers
they may have already worked with. But I am still giving information
that may contradict what others have said, and I could not honestly
practice any other way.

I had already hesitated to sit the exam because I wasn't sure I was
up for the constant swimming upstream, beating my head against a
brick wall, and frustrations that are so common in the LC profession.
I made peace with that, pretty much. But now, with this code of
ethics vs. scope of practice issue putting IBCLCs between a rock and
a hard place as Emily says -- why would I do that? I am not a
masochist. Even though I am very interested in & think I have a lot
to offer the field of lactation, returning to my pre-motherhood
profession is looking more likely all the time.
