Hi all,

Can't remember who's suggestion it was, but I just finished 'The Birth House' by Amy McKay and have spent wonderful hours with this book!
Amazing, that after almost hundred years, the discussion is still the same: where do women deliver their babies and who's to decide what feels best?
I happened to visit a medieval festival over the Whitsun weekend and the atmosphere in the book and at the festival somehow fitted miraculously, although I realize that the middle ages were not as romantic as they seem during a sunbathed festival in a lovely small German town.
Nevertheless, I felt that a little more respect for the mystery and 'sacredness' of birth and breastfeeding and motherhood would do society no harm...

Warmly,

Marianne Vanderveen, Netherlands (still a little bit in a witchy modus, with a nice tinkling anklet bought at the festival by the two youngest daughters as a gift for Mother's day... ;-))
