Dear Lactnet community,

We are launching an Infant Oral Motor & Feeding Skills Study Group on
Facebook. This group is for lactation professionals, peer support leaders
and others (speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, etc.)
who want to improve our skills at helping babies with special feeding
challenges.

Unlike most study groups, no one needs to read a particular book to take
part. Our goal is to create a supportive atmosphere in which we can help
each other figure out how to apply the information we are learning from
books, speakers, webinars, etc., to our daily practice with these families.

Please read on to hear more about this. You are welcome to forward this
message to others.

We look forward to meeting you!

April Rosenblum & Linda Derbyshire,
co-moderators

Infant Oral Motor & Feeding Skills Study Group
<https://www.facebook.com/groups/oralmotorstudygroup/>A group for those of
us who lie awake at night, thinking about how best to help babies with oral
motor and other feeding problems. This group is a place for professionals
and peer support leaders to learn from each other about how to take the
lessons we absorb from books like Catherine Watson Genna's "Supporting
Sucking Skills in Breastfeeding Infants" and put them into practice in our
daily work. Let's figure it out together!

--------------------

Welcome! This is a group for those of us who are obsessed with figuring out
how to help babies with oral motor & other feeding challenges.

Most of us are feeding professionals or peer support leaders, with a good
grasp of lactation & supplementation basics. But knowing how to manage milk
supply, latch optimally, and keep parents in the game is different from
knowing how to help babies cope with palate and airway abnormalities, oral
ties, tone issues, respiratory challenges, torticollis or birth injuries.

Books like Catherine Watson Genna's Supporting Sucking Skills in
Breastfeeding Infants have been practice-changers for many of us. But
putting the ideas from these books into practice is not always as easy as
it looks. Many of us work in solo practices, without colleagues who can
help us analyze what's working. We may live in communities where other
professionals are dismissive of our concerns. Many of the techniques
described are hard to learn without hands-on practice at the side of
someone more experienced.

So we fumble along! This is a community where we can share our learning and
our big questions with people who share our passion for figuring these
challenges out. Welcome.
