elisheva's question brings up an important point. straight cow's milk might
contain more potential allergy-causing milk proteins, but one of the points
about advocating its use "after six months" is that by that time, we would
know plainly if a baby were sensitive to dairy. if the baby was, we wouldn't
want to use dairy anything until closer to a year. if the baby has not shown
any signs of sensitivity to dairy in his mother's milk, then it isn't a
problem by six months. i still feel that the "reason" doctors are often
advocating using formula use is that they feel it is superior to cows milk,
and jack's point is that there is no scientific evidence that this is so. but
there is plenty of marketing giving us the impression that this is so.

and at the risk of opening yet another can of pureed stage one worms, this
is equivalent to the marketing of "baby food" which implies that babies need
to start with food a (cereal) and go to food b (pureed vegs) and then food c
(pureed fruits) and so on up through the entire line of prepared foods. its
all marketing. its JUST marketing. mothers are awfully surprised at how i
describe a baby's transition to foods other than breastmilk.

i have also heard some real horror stories about what some hcps (midwives
and "holistic" doctors among them) tell their clients about which foods to
inroduce when, and completely ridiculous ideas about delaying foods until
well past a year with a fear of allergies in mind. it has lead to FTT in one
case i have seen.
