after having been a staff nurse for 12 years, an IBCLC for 4, we finally
have a position available for me to work "full-time" as an LC. But since I
have worked with my co-workers as a staff nurse for so long it is hard for
them to see me do something different. There are days that I still
function as a cross-trained nurse, doing L&D and mother/baby care. The
issue has come to "what to wear" My boss originally thought it best for me
to be in professional dress with a lab coat so I did that. but some co-
workers complain that it sets me apart from the team. (after I bought new
clothes, thank you) so now we are torn. I like the professional look, feel
that patients probably could care less, but "trust" someone more who looks
professional and it does set me apart from the role as "their regular
nurse". I must remember that pts are thankful for my help. My question of
the day is what is everyone else wearing in a hospital situation? I also
belong to several hospital committees and attend meetings with other
depts. I read somewhere once that part of a persons success can or is
influenced by their dress. maybe i am just asking for support at a time
when my role is somewhat ambigous to coworkers, and I am working as there
first ever LC, so I feel like inventing the wheel. i am off to see Chele
Marmet in a few weeks to learn some more sbout infant suck and will listen
and ask lots of question. I need my positive fix from my fellow
lactnetters. you can email me personally or post , thanks, Carrie,
struggling to be the best for my moms and babies who need me
