Hi Friends: In December, a pump client called to tell me that when she went
through airport security (don't remember the city), airport security checked
her breastpump and then ordered her to drink some of her expressed milk. The
mother complied and the security person was happy and that was the end of it.
Yesterday, another of my moms called to say that over the weekend, the same
thing happened to her in the Austin, TX airport (my beloved Austin!) and the
mother was incensed and objected. the agent asked if she was refusing to
comply and she said yes. He called his supervisor and the supervisor looked
at it and said: yep, it's breastmillk and let the matter drop. This mom is
an attorney - a medical malpractice for the plantif attorney and she is
hopping mad - she was with her male colleagues and she found this all
embarassing, unnecessary, not to mention that she had pumped and transported
this milk for her infant and didn't want any of it to go for anything but her
infant. Has anyone else had this experience or heard about this in the
world's airports? She's contacted Channel 8 (ABC) news her in Dallas and
they want to do a story but it would be helpful if this is fairly isolated or
a common occurence....
