Dear Kathy,
I do not work in a hospital setting and so I cannot answer your
questions, but I would like to take this opportunity of expressing my
support for your position on not handing out formula marketing bags or
using products that advertise formula.

The other day a student asked here how we educate mothers about
breastfeeding. One of the most important ways is by not pushing
formula. This sounds so obvious, doesn't it, yet it happens every day.

By conforming to the ethical guidelines of our profession, you may
well find yourself without a job. However, I am convinced that if
every IBCLC did the same, then hospitals would be forced to rethink
their positions on this issue.

With admiration,
norma
