There is absolutely no evidence to indicate an increase in infections if you
get the umi wet or do a full bath before the cord falls off.  It is another
one of those "old pediatrician tales" that we were all taught, but that has
no basis in research.  I stopped recommending no baths and alcohol to the
cord years ago.
