Dear Lois..thanks for your words of wisdom. I see people using butterfly
syringes and syringe barrels all the time as a makeshift lactation aid.
I think that professionals use make shift equipment all the time. This
is an interesting thing in terms of risk management. Food for thought.
Kathleen

Dear Lactnetters, never use an article for other than it is designed for
or you can be sued! Professionally, we should not try inventing
something that a hospital buys or supplies for another reason. We are
supporting evedence based protocols and they are safe products to use in
place of our invention. The hospital and you would be held libile if a
patient complained about a makeshift item being used. We need new
information and inventions but not from trying something out on a
patient. I have this info from Risk Management Dept. Idon't want any one
getting in hot water, we need all the support we can get from each
other. Love and need you all. Lois Mathews R.N.IBCLC Improving life one
