1) I want to comment on the 'flat heads' due to sleeping on back. I
started seeing those 'flat heads' & 'heads squared on one side with
flattened backs' when I was a cosmetologist back in the '70's. I
assumed the babies developed the shape from being carried and left
sitting all day in those hard molded infant carriers. I'm still seeing
babies being carried in those things constantly. They're also being fed
(bottle)& (spoon) from them too. I'm constantly making suggestions that
a mom or dad hold their child to feed them. Do you think there may be a
combination of causes of flat heads?
 2) I've also been hearing many parents say that they're afraid of
spoiling their infant by picking him/her up when they cry. They are
getting that message from relatives, friends and anyone who has not been
educated to the fact that a baby is communicating a need with his/her
crying. let's continue to take the time to let mom's know in our child
birth & BF classes & books that their little ones need constant touching
and holding, not just to be picked up for feeding and for changing a
diaper. The baby who is picked up when s/he cries is less anxious, less
adrenaline circulates causing blood sugar fluctuations and s/he grows up
knowing how and when to communicate his/her needs (hopefully). If we
tell ten, then those ten may tell ten, etc. Let's not assume parents
know this fact because the myth is still being circulated.
