I am having a problem with a 5 week old baby who consistently latches,
nurses for about 2-3 minutes, pulls away, then roots around, latches
briefly, pulls away, becomes frustrated, butts her head against mom, then
roots back and forth with a wide mouth - this cycle repeats itself for about
30 minutes to an hour sometimes. Then in 1 hour, baby is awake and starts
over again. THis mother is extremely frustrated and I sense some anger in
her when her baby claws her or latches and pulls the nipple way out. I'm
sure her anger is not helping the situation. This mom is pretty high-anxiety
anyway.

We have battled mastitis, candida, etc., and I feel like those problems have
been pretty thoroughly addressed. Also, mom has an overactive let-down
reflex, and baby chokes sometimes. We worked on pumping out a little to
allow let down to finish, then relatch. Also tried sitting baby upright for
feedings. All of these things seem to work for about 24 hours, then we go
downhill again. I'm rather at my wits end, and I'm not sure where to go
from here.

Any ideas out there? We could sure use them?

Thanks so much!!
