I had a woman in my birth center childbirth class that decided to rent an
electric pump and she pumped and delivered the milk to the adoptive mother
for 6 months. In order to avoid any formula, she did try to pump and store
for a week prior to labor, but everytime she tried, she experienced severe
uterine contractions that lasted well over a minute. She decided to wait,
and I believe the mother may have supplemented a few feeds until the milk
came in. I don't think the birth mother put the baby to breast.
Linda Goldberg, RN, CCE, hoping to add 5 more in Oct.
