I totally agree with the poster who said to be careful of every little
thing we say so as not to undermine mom's confidence. But I must also
say, and we've talked about this before, that sometimes what a mother
reports is not really what the hospital LC said. Recently, the nurses
were upset because a mom told them that I told her she had a cheap
pump. The conversation was about hospital grade pumps being more
effective in the early days of bf with an poorly nursing early baby or
it might have been a mom who wanted to only pump (by choice). I swear
I did not say to mom "This is a cheap pump" and I remember saying that
her pump would be useful a little later on. It still serves as a
reminder to be ever so careful exactly what you say, but most hospital
LCs don't talk to moms like that.
