Hi All,
My OB manager told me that our whole hospital system (about 15 hospitals)
has been approached by Prolacta and is considering their services. They
want us to host a milk bank and in exchange will do all kinds of nice
things for us for example: Prolacta will help subsidize the cost of
hospital based lactation services. Provide ongoing staff training. All
equipment and supplies at no charge. Priority purchase rights for finished
products with no obligation to purchase(ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm).Receive cash or
product for donated milk (I don't know what that means? bla, bla........
I have searched our archives and also googled Prolacta and this is what I
have found. They raised $4 million in venture capital........darn.......I'm
in the wrong bus.

Prolacta Bioscience, a privately held company dedicated to ensuring the
availability and highest possible safety of donor breast milk for babies,
announced today that it has raised $4 million in private venture funding in
its series B financing round.

The funding round was led by Draper Fisher Jurvetson Frontier of Santa
Barbara, Calif., Draper Associates LP of Menlo Park, Calif., and Draper
Richards LP of San Francisco, Calif. Additional major investments were made
by Jupiter Partners and the William K. Bowes, Jr. Foundation.

"Breastmilk contains inherent immunological, therapeutic and nutritional
properties that need to be available for patients, particularly premature
babies," said Elena Medo, CEO of Prolacta Bioscience. "These funds will
enable the company to focus on processing human donor milk to ensure it is
as safe as possible. The success of this financing round is evidence of
Prolacta's long-term commitment to the safety and availability of human
milk."

Prolacta Bioscience will use the money to complete the construction of
their pharmaceutical processing facility, establish standardized milk
banking procedures, further develop the community and hospital milk bank
system and plan for future milk-based products, such as enriched human milk
and human milk fortifier. The company will begin processing in late July in
its 16,000-square-foot Monrovia, Calif., facility.
