Cynthia asks: How long have you all heard of a mom going before her milk is
in?
I have seen it take a week in several cases, where no other obvious reason
was located (other than primip with difficult birth). I have seen it delayed
longer with retained placenta, in several other cases. In one case the
mother was a 40's primip, no history of problems, uncomplicated natural
birth. Milk was delayed 2 weeks then came in rapidly over 2 or 3 days. No
hormone tests were done but I would have REALLY like to have seen the
results. Mom was dedicated and fed infant with an SNS frequently and
pumped. Infant took the breast without difficulty. I suspected that the
milk came in as a result of stimulation of the breast not as the result of
the birth.
