I have been searching the archives on this one... I have been working with
a great mom with a 6 month old baby girl. Mom "loves breastfeeding", and
baby has been growing well. Stable home with husband, quiet rural
community, mom is stay-at-home, supportive social environment. Baby has
been growing well. Recently, mom is experiencing BIG letdown problems. She
has always felt a strong letdown, but is finding it becoming more and more
frequent that at random feed, she feels nothing, and baby refuses to stay on
the breast, pulls away screaming. We have tried having hubby massage
her back, but he simply can't be with her 24 hours a day! Looking at pics
of other bf moms while nursing was suggested to her by an LLL mom...she said
this worked a few times, but then didn't, and now won't work at all. I
suggested she try putting a piece of baby's recently worn clothing right
next to her nose while nursing and rely on the power of scent. She also
tried nursing naked baby while in the tub together...baby thought it was
great fun and refused to even try to nurse! She is very frustrated, and the
more often this happens, the more upset she is becoming. In archives, I
found info. about the following as well....syntocinon nasal spray - is it
even available any more? Hale recommends making a substitute mix using
injectible pit and altering it, but I am an LC, not a pharmacist! Also read
of St. John's Wort, 300mg x3 times a day, or maybe a course of fenugreek or
reglan??? Even read of buccal pit tablets under the tongue! Maybe just
giving her a tangible thing to "take" orally would help psychosomatically?
Help, please! I am NO MAIL due to lots of family stuff going on, so please
email me privately as well as posting to the list. Thanks so much! This mom
is desperate.
